Another new addition to my collection. It wasnt a coin I was looking for but the price was too good to pass up so I snatched it. Getting this coin has me wanting to finish the 12 caesaers. I just need Caligula, Vitellius and the $ showstopper Otho. But they will take time. Galba (69 A.D.) AR Denarius O: IMP SER GALBA CAESAR AVG, Laureate and draped bust right. R: ROMA RENASCES, Roma standing left, victory on globe presenting wreath in right, long eagle-tipped scepter transverse in left. Rome 3.1 19mm RIC 229, RSC 208, BMCRE p. 313
Denarii of the 12 Caesars may be the most collectible of the major Roman denominations (as, sestertius, denarius, and aureus). Bronzes seem to be increasingly scarce, and aurei are not only scarce but can be pricey depending on your budget constraints. Completing a set of 12 Caesars denarii will give you a real sense of satisfaction, especially once you have them all laid out and arranged in front of you, imagining the march of history as documented by each coin. Well worth the time and effort. Out of curiosity, did you find this coin at an online dealer, or acquire it through some sort of auction? Private sale? Just wondering!
