Yours has the longer neck. Aurelian (270 - 275 A.D.) Æ Antoninianus O: IMP C AVRELIANVS AVG, Radiate and cuirassed bust right. R: ORIENS AVG , Sol advancing left, raising right hand, globe in left, flanked by two captives at feet, txxt in ex Ticinum Mint 2nd Emission. 3rd Officina 3.81g RIC 151
@Andres2 Unfortunately, I do not have one with Oriens with sword in hand. I only have the ones with the 'globe' in hand, like Mat. Aurelian RIC VI.62 XXI RIC Vi.150. S
Andres, thanks for the cool OP-post (congrats on the new addition) Aurelian, eh? => well, I do have this same ol' example ... and here it comes again ... long necked goose
Great coin and write up. Pics are always cool. I have an Aurelian and Vaballathus combo pack: RI Vabalathus 271-272 CE and Aurelian And, a long-neck Aurelian (Hey, he looks pretty fat in the OP pic...): RI Aurelian 270-275 CE AE Ant Concordia-Milit
Sol is actually holding a whip. This also means that the RIC number 279 that Andres2 has for his coin is wrong. It is 255, though RIC only lists this coin as cuirassed; but any bust type can be included in the RIC number. The revision to RIC V will separate these different bust types- http://www.ric.mom.fr/en/coin/2358
