i am at a coin show right now and don’t have my references with me. There is a F/VF large cent with an S-262 obverse and a different reverse (tip of leaf points past the T in UNITED). Is this a common variety, or should I scoop it up ASAP?

    Save your pennies, TC.

It an S-255 Rarity-1. Not bad looking, worth roughly $ 200.

Broken right foot on all 'T's', and on 'Y' on the obverse.

But keep looking. I once bought an 1823 N-1 in VF35 for 25 pounds at that show.

    Thank you very much!

The dealer wanted £450, which I was not going to pay unless it was something special.

I'm glad Edward else was online to identify this S-255. I usually identify the reverse first with 1803s after checking on whether it is a large 3 or not. Many obverses are very similar.
