Thanks Bone, I still can't find any information on the blasted thing. I am assuming this is what is known as a Condor? I see there is one on ebay right now. Do these things have any value?
I paid just a few bucks for mine. Lady Godiva is the gal on the horse The chaps from Britain will know more and may post when they see the thread. Good Luck Ben
It a conder token from Warwickshire. Dalton & Hammer #237 a Coventry Halfpenny with Lady Godiva on the obverse Lady Godiva PRO BONO PUBLICO with 1793 in the exergue/Armorial bearings of the city of Coventry. (An elephant with a castle on his back.) Coventry Halfpenny reverse. There are quite a few varieties of this coin. It should say in the edge PAYABLE AT BIRMINGHAM LONDON OR BRISTOL or PAYABLE AT THE WAREHOUSE OF ROBERT REYNOLDS & CO...Reynolds & Co. were ribbon weavers in Coventry. I think 1793 will have the former not the later. These are often a bit more expensive because they are popular for the funky elephant with the claws and long tail that looks depressed...most likely the engraver had never seen an elephant.
There is a lot of interest in the British Isles traders' currency tokens from both British & British Commonwealth collectors.I have one with Lady Godiva on the obverse, but the reverse shows Coventry's Market Cross. Aidan.
Thank you to all of you. Lady Godiva eh.. wish this was in better condition huh.. : ) Thanks again. I will be posting more as I scan them in. I am continuing to look, I just found about 10 of them from Japan. This is a great learning tool.
