Elagab Altar

    Struck at Emesa (Homs) in Syria, the following coin exhibits a particular altar which belongs to Elagabalus. The latter doesn't seem willing to abide by the Roman Myths. Maybe he lost his life being murdered for his belief in his Syrian deity. The obverse of the coin has Julia Domna. It weighs 9.75 g. BMC 10. Hope you like it.

    Very interesting altar. I assume libations would be poured into the bowl on top, presumably incense mixed with oils from a patera. Great coin.
