Is anyone able to get/order Eisenhower dollars at their bank? I have asked two different banks that I work with and they say they can't get them. I thought in the past I had her of people that could bet $1000 bags? Is anyone able to get them and what bank is it? Or what coin provider do they use?

    Thanks

I live in Canada so this may be not totally accurate but I think from what I heard the bags of coins are pretty hard to find. I once tried to get a certain year and they said they get what they get. I think you will succeed in getting dollars no specific type or year than ordering a specific type. You will need to go through a box and sort the coins.

I was looking around for Ike's about a year ago. Never could find any large quantity. I have just asked each time I go in. There maybe a few in a teller drawer. Maybe once a month or so they will have a couple of rolls. They are usually delighted to get rid of them. Most I found at once was 4 rolls. Keep asking at multiple branches, they turn up from time to time.

Oh yea; you just reminded me to ask my bank about that :) Doubt it though

I swear I heard/read from someone on hear a while ago that they were actually able to order $1K bags of Ike's from their bank. Would love to know what bank/provider it was though, if true. I have come across a couple banks in the past that had a good amount of them but not that could actually order them. I did grab 20 rolls from a bank one time, that's the best I have done.

I would not doubt it but this person may have knew someone in the bank and they kept them and put them in a bag for them and over time it was $1000 so they bought the bag.

Ya I remember that too. It's somewhere in the "Roll Searchers, Post Your Results" thread... good luck finding it in there :) its like searching for a needle in a haystack.

I have a teller who calls me when they have Eisenhower dollars. I got a call the other day and i was going to bring 25$ and it ended up that she had 700. Amazing, all from the same person she told me. He must have been a collector who needed some money.

I picked up over $100 last weekend. No silver ones, but still a nice pick-up.

I've asked banks all over my area to look into ordering them for me. No luck in getting them from the Fed. I just try to pick-up any that are in the branch banks I go to.

I have a small regional chain bank near me that asked me out of the blue if I wanted any, since I came in asking for halves a week before. Turns out they've had 140 sitting in the vault that they're going to take out for this weekend.

As for ordering them, my theory is that the armored carriers/fed only stock these when they get them back from municipal transit authorities (I've seen NY Transit-marked burlap sacks filled with them) or find them in storage with other dollar coins, although I'm guessing they're mostly depleted. I'm not really sure what happens to them once they get shipped back to Brinks/Loomis/etc, they probably save them in a pile somewhere until they have a ton, or try to sell them back to the fed if possible.

Depending on the bank, I usually get Ikes loose. One bank I went to had 44 dollars worth and another had 60 dollars worth. But like one poster put you get them in loose increments like 3 or 4.

If you're really lucky, you can sometimes get what a courier company has. This is really rare, and only happens when a bank has enough to ship out. I've never been so lucky. I've only received loose at individual branches.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but yes there are a few posts about that in that thread.

The poster who got the Ikes called around to the armored truck companies that service his area. One said they have them, and told him which banks they service. He opened an account with one of those banks and discussed what Loomis or Guarda or whoever told him. They ordered Ikes for him, the Ikes came in some Transit Authority bag.
He ended up with something like 1 Peace dollar, 1 40% Ike, and some goofy fake ASE in the $1k bag.
