I thought I knew a lot about the Eisenhower dollar, I have a number of them. However, some of the ones with "S" mint marks are silver and some are clad? How can I tell the difference? Thanks!

Look at the edge. Silver are silver and the clad show copper.

    1971 S and 1972 S are silver; 73 S, 74S, and 76S may be silver or may be clad.

Easiest way to tell would be weighing them

    Copper-nickel issues:

    • Weight: 22.68 grams

    Silver-copper issues (silver clad):

    • Weight: 24.59 grams
