Hello, I posted about this last week in the What is it Worth forum and was advised to post here. I have an Edward the Confessor coin that was found in the 1970s in my Grandmother's garden in Nottingham, England. My father had taken it to a coin dealer but all I know is that it was identified. I now own it and I wanted to know if it is worth anything etc. Any info would be great and much appreciated. I have enclosed pictures of the coin and also the plastic pouch that the coin dealer put it i. Thank you in advance! IMG_4423.JPG IMG_4427.JPG IMG_4425.JPG

Weight and diameter please. This can be important for determining type.

Unfortunately I do not have a scale that can weigh anything that small. Diameter is shown in the photo. I suppose I would have to go to a jeweller or coin dealer to find out exact weight. IMG_4440.JPG

How can you tell? I have had it since the 70s and totally forgot about it until last week :)

    Looks like an Ashmore forgery.

Trevor Ashmore was a prolific counterfeiter of English coins in the 1960s. His coins have this "look". I have not investigated whether this one matches any of his known dies, but I am also of the opinion that it is not genuine.

Since the coins were produced in the 1960s, it is completely plausible that you acquired it in 1970. It doesn't make it any more real though.

Some people collect these but they don't have much value, maybe $10 or so.
