Thought these showed an interesting transitional period in Japanese coinage. When the mon currency was abandoned, the old currency still circulated for a while at a discounted rate, at about 1 mon = 1 or 1/2 rin. Silver was still worth metal value or more.

    From L:
Bunkyueiho 4 mon with "ho" as 寶 and 宝 (simplified) 1863-68
    100 mon Tempotsuhou 1835-70
    Tempo Ichubu Gin (rectangular) 1835-70
    Mammeita Gin (bean-shaped) 1710-14?

Meiji Era coins from L top
    1 Yen year 20 = 1887
    50 sen year 40 = 1907
    20 sen year 3 = 1870
    10 sen year 25 = 1892
    5 sen year 6 = 1873
    2 sen year 15 = 1882
    1 sen year 15 = 1882
    1/2 sen year 10 = 1877
    1 rin year 16 = 1883

One of these days I would like to make a similar set to this. All I have is this panoramic of various Pre-Meiji pieces alongside a round one. I need to update it. F1AE3A51-C3F0-46B9-93A1-B59F4611A47A.jpeg

This was my first set of Japanese Meiji silver:

If I recall correctly, it was 12,000yen (about $110 USD / 93 EUR), which I thought was pretty good.

Two from year 28 (1895) and two from year 32 (1899)
