Can anyone tell me about this? I think it's silver. Any idea on its worth? Thanks!

I believe that it is. Ley is the percentage. It should have 72% of 2.5 grams, or something like that it is hard to read from the pics.

Is the coin about the size of a silver dollar? If so it might be 25 grams.

Changed the contrast so it's easier to read.

    Yeah Silver Dollar size. Says:

Gram 25 Cinco Sucres Ley 0.720

Family friend recently gave it to me. She knows I collect silver coins. Any idea on silver worth? Thanks!

I found this. It will save you from doing the math on the silver content.

    Years Minted: 1943-1944
    Composition: 72% Silver, 28% Copper
    Diameter: 37 mm
Weight: 25 grams (0.5787 oz. actual silver weight)
    Mintages: 1943 – 1,000,000 | 1944 – 2,600,000
    Obverse Design: Bust
    Reverse Design: Coat of Arms

It will be worth .58 of a ounce. It is around $18/ounce I think.

Yes the later coins with that same guy on them don't have any silver. I have a 1979 and it doesn't say anything about Mexico or Ley, darn!

I bought this coin for about 33$ (in Russia). I think that it"s value in USA mustn"t so high.
