There are a couple "coin" dealers on Ebay that just drive me up a wall. I dont know their names nor do I care because I wont be buying from them anytime soon. Anyway, they hold nearly every one of their coins on his or her finger when they take photos. Why would I EVER buy a coin from someone who does something so STUPID! Yea please send me that coin, it's the one with the FINGERPRINT on it! Ok I feel a little better now thank you.
Yeah, you've got to wonder about them Mark. If they're that careless about their coins then they're not professionals...at least I hope not. Bruce
They call themselves coin dealers?!!!!! I don't know how may times I've seen their listings, everytime I do I want to email them about it. Then I realize whats the point, it's not my place to tell someone how to run their business. In a way I guess it's good, I know to NEVER buy anything from them ever. Thanks for the Reply Bruce!
I saw this one guy on ebay selling a lincoln error cent. His picture was just a cent on his finger and the description was something like "this penny has a rare error on the front". I hope it didn't sell.
I'm sure someone who doesn't know any better probably did buy it. If the photo had a light blue backround thats the guy I'm talking about. There are others but ALL of that sellers photos are taken the same way. Thanks!
If it is a circulated coin, who cares about a finger print anyway. Are you saying that he is holding mint state / proofs with his fingers? Best unprofessional coin sale photos I ever saw were where this guy got his girlfriend to balance the coin on her cleavage for each sales shot... I didn't bid, but I did view several of his auction listings
I know this is off topic, but I get the same feeling when I see the guy on the Goldline advertisement holding five St Gaudens in the palm of his hand. Big Ed
Geez Tony, haven't you got anything better to do than post bad jokes...like dig up some fossils or gaze adoringly at your Icelandic coins. Come on Siggi / Mark, help me out here. Bruce
While we are on ebay seller rants, can we complain about sellers who offer FBL Franklins but either don't have a pic of the reverse, or the reverse shot is so blurry you couldn't even tell it was a Liberty Bell!
I personally like the listings for rolls of proof coins, all spilled out into a large pile. I'll take 2!
Yeah, how can anybody call themselves "professional" and touch coins with their bare hands! What I think is even worse is those self proclaimed "professional" coin "graders" getting their dirty hands all over the coin submissions. Unthinkable! Professional...yeah right... http://www.pcgs.com/videos/pcgs_high.wmv [/SARCASM]
Here is a PERFECT example of what I'm talking about. There are a few "coin dealers" who do the same. http://cgi.ebay.com/US-1879-P-SILVE...45?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item5645168f55
The guy is using his hand to adjust the angle of the coin to the lighting & camera. He should be using the method described in this thread: http://www.cointalk.com/t56856/
