Just thought the ebayers here might appreciate this. I personally find this very useful. http://www.auctionsniper.com/
There is also a program called 'JustSnipe' that gives you 5 free snipes a month, a small charge for over 5. Bids settable down to 4 seconds left.
It's a Yiddish expression. Feh! A visceral expression of disgust, either physical or emotional. see http://www.bubbygram.com/yiddishglossary.htm.
Then you'd be reporting a majority of the successful bidders. Many, many people use snipers and swear by them. Also, is there even anything in the eBay terms and conditions about not using sniping programs? Fish
yeah, i dont think i would use this unless i TRUELY wanted something. other than that, i'll do it the old-fashion, normal way
Sniping does not break any of ebay's rules. Because of the nature of ebay's bidding system you are almost required to snipe. In a live auction you have an auctioneer that says going once, twice, etc. and the bid is not done until the hammer comes down. before the hammer someone can step up and place a higher bid. Other bidders will have a chance to bid again. Ebay uses a timer system, the hammer is on a clock. once that clock runs out, the hammer is down and bidding is over :hammer: . because it is on this clock you are forced to do last second bidding, hence sniping. If ebay where to go to a live auction system they would have to hire a couple hundred thousand auctioneers to look over each and every auction, its just not feasible. Remember that ebay is not just coins, its everything under the sun, at any given second thousands of auctions are coming to an end. I have lost many bids to last second sniping, their is nothing wrong with it. If you do not like sniping then stop using ebay, or start sniping yourself. Don;t hate the player, hate the game.
I do not use sniping - what a waste of time and this is only my opinion. I usually decide what I am going to bid on a coin and that is all I bid. The sellers should be grateful - I bid up more auctions than I actually win. AND if I catch a last minute auction I can still get a bid in with in seconds - they joy of broadband. Every now and then I will test the waters with one bid and then come back and bid later. Yes I lose a lot of auctions in the last few seconds(and yes sometimes by a dollar or two), but I am not going to bid some of the ridiculous prices I see just to win some auction. Shooot - a lot of times the coins are already selling for more than I would pay - especially the auctions for like ANI, HCGS, etc. graded coins. I almost always ask for better pictures and am always told they are the best they can do. And sometimes you can find better coins at online dealers for better prices - it is a lot of work before I bid on a coin. On my silver eagles I would get an average price for the coins (PCGS MS69 and PR69) I would then figure 80-90% of that price. I would then keep bidding on every coin I wanted until I won. I think the only thing that helped me win was that there are plenty of these to be had. Not like waiting for the perfect draped bust cent or IHC to come along.
I have it down to 7 seconds so far and that is manual bidding :smile and believe me I have recieved complaints because I have dared to place a winning bid in the last few seconds of a auction De Orc :kewl:
Well even me on slooooooowwww old dial up internet can sometimes "snipe" an auction myself at less than 5sec.....what I do I bring up two Internet pages and on the one I sign in like I'm ready to bid and even put in a higher bid but I don't push OK---and I leave it right there---on my other page I just keep on updating it untill I see it at about 10 sec...then I just count a few numbers and go back to the other page and hit GO---it will place the bid in the last few sec and normaly I get it! Speedy
Speedy, I used to do this but a sniping program does exactly what you describe. You just don't sit there and wait for the last few seconds. You say that sniping is, "a waste of time " -but then say you manually bid on auctiuons at the last minute. Again, you are manually doing what sniping does. It is *no different* than waiting until the last few seconds and manually submitting a bid. The only difference is that you decide in advance what your maximum price is (just like regular ebay bidding) and it doesn't submit the bid until the last few seconds, same as you'd do manually. Instead of all of this happening at the last few seconds, you can (somewhat rationally) decide what you hope to win it for days or weeks in advance and not have to be there for the final minute. Also there is bid grouping, where you find a bunch of the same coin (same grade, etc.) and set snipes on them. If you win any *one* it cancels the other bids. If you bid on ebay and don't like sniping you probably haven't tried it. Once you do, I doubt you'd have anything bad to say about it. It's simply an automated and more organized way of doing what most people do manually. Although I still bid normally, I always wonder why I didn't just set up a snipe. Yes you can manually beat a snipe. I've beat my own snipe, heh (after deciding at the last second that I was willing to pay more to try to win something).
I don't really understand people's objections to "bid sniping"- if someone else "snipes" and wins an auction that I'm bidding on it's because they're willing to pay over my maximum bid. If I'm not willing to pay higher, why worry?
I used to hate sniping, but figured out that that's about the only way I was going to win anything. So, like someone said, don't hate the player, hate the game. So, I do some sniping now and then. Sniping doesn't always work because there can be other people that still have higher Max Bids than the one you enter at the last minute. As far as sniping programs go, Come On People! What the heck's exciting about that?! What's exciting is when you hit the Submit button, quickly refresh the screen, and see if you won or not! or
no...its not the only way to win anything  I dont use auto-sniping service and I seldom snipe and when I do its only because I truely decided I am willing to pay more at the last second...for one...its just another way to bilk money out of you for doing something you can do manually...so I bid on things myself and dont bother with it...I will never give any third party my info...to me thats just asking for trouble...and down right stupid. I have a feeling sniping is for people who bid on half of the coins on ebay with the purpose of getting a low price to resale...its for people who are just trying to eek a few bucks off of coins. To me it just seems like a lazy thing to do...but if you are trying to buy up every coin on e-bay to resale....it might be worth it. The only reason I dont like it is they are just a rip-off for a plain collector like myself and I assume the way these stupid services do it is faster than the way I can do it myself but I win auctions all the time without it...so I lose a coin here or there because some person uses a program to slip a higher bid in 2 seconds before the end and maybe I would have been willing to go a bit higher for it in the end...my fault I know and that might have happened by someone who did it manually as well...It takes a grand total of about 5-7 seconds for me to put a bid in...so I guess you pay these guys to cut off a few seconds? I will save my money and keep my info safe and pass... Whether it is manual or auto I just cant stand these profiteers that out bid me in an auction and then you see the same damn coin relisted with a minimum higher than he bought it for...but what are you going to do...if a human can find a way to make an extra buck off your hobby he will. I might bid on 10 things at a time and I am almost always around (or my wife) to be there as it ends...I ALWAYS put my bid in right when I see what I want, I dont lurk until the last minute...I love these bidders who think they are tricky and then as it gets to be a few minutes to seconds you can see the sneaky snipers bumping....so I try to make a definite choice as to my max, enter it and let it go (if I am around)...so I just dont see the need for it...its not like it ruins anything for me because I am almost ALSWAYS there when a bid I care about ends...and that might be the difference...caring about what you are buying and not just blanket purchasing things to resale. I assume with a snipe service you give them a max? and then its out of your hands? I want to be there because at the last few minutes I might decide I care enough about it to pay a bit more than I previously thought...all the same...if it costs money...you can keep it and I will do my own bidding and I often get what I bid on in the end...
I understand how it seems like cheating that someone else may be using a sniping service. It happened with the first coin I bidded for and I admit it made me very unhappy to refresh the screen and see that somehow I lost in the last millisecond. However, sniping services to me are a symptom of the 'panic bidding' that pervades eBay and dampens my enthusiasm for the site. I never wanted to be a floor trader on Wall Street, I determined early on that I simply had to decide what I wanted to pay beforehand and that's that. Anyway, with the volume of coins floating around, its likely that I will see another coin with the same date and grade soon enough. So if anyone sees me bidding and wants to snipe me, go ahead I won't get my knickers in a bunch. I have years of collecting ahead of me.
