Hey guys I have an auction ending tomorrow and I'm shipping a slabbed coin free to the winner. What is the best way to ship a single slab? I'm looking for secure but also inexpensive. The slab is a numex if that matters. That's for the help!
I ship mine first class in a padded envelope with delivery confirmation. Alternatives if the price demands. I use PayPal to print/pay for the shipping and get about a 50¢ discount on the costs. BTW, what do you mean numex slab?
If the item is being paid for with PayPal , then just use PayPal to pay for and print your shipping label that comes with delivery confirmation. There is a setting in your eBay site preferences where you can make eBay your default shipping label method or switch it to PayPal. They both work about the same , but I prefer going directly to PayPal and clicking on the details of the paid for item. Then printing the packing slip and then the shipping label from there. A typical slabbed coin should weigh less than 2 ounces including the slab. The packaging should add about another .70 ounces. So be sure that you wrap the entire slab several times in 1/16 bubble wrap and place inside a 6x9 envelope that is 28lb paper strength or better. You want to make sure that envelope is thick enough to qualify it as a First Class Mail Package/Thick Envelope. You would select that option from your PayPal label printing screen. Then you'd estimate the weight to be about 1 ounce more than you really think the whole package will weigh (unless you have an accurate scale at home). Then choose the option to insure the item with USPS insurance if the item is worth more than 100.00. So with postage + delivery confirmation + insurance it shouldn't come out to more than $4.00. Apply your shipping label to the envelope before placing your item in it. Do not tape over the bar code. Place your generously bubble wrapped slab in the envelope and tape it to the inside of the envelope. Seal the envelope and then tape all 4 edges for re-enforcement. Tape the back seam of the envelope length-wise for re-enforcement. Tape over every part of the shipping label EXCEPT the bar code. I hope you are using clear shipping tape warning : If the envelope is not thick enough then the recipient's local Post Office may try to charge the recipient extra postage because they treat flat envelopes that have delivery confirmation on them as Priority Mail. It is crooked and wrong but it happens. You can stop in at any decent U.S.Post Office and ask them to give you a FREE "First-Class Mail Shape-Based Pricing Template" part number PSN 7530-10-000-0765. So you can verify the your envelope is thick enough. Good Luck p.s. to make things really simple: Pick up a stack of FREE Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Boxes from your local Post Office. When you pay and print your Small Flat Rate Box label from PayPal , it only costs $5.00 and comes with delivery confirmation. You can save on shipping materials this way.
You can print shipping to anyone anytime using PayPal regardless of where the money came from. Just go to https://www.paypal.com/shipnow. You have to manually enter the address, but I will bet it is still cheaper than going to the PO.
rlm's I use the multi-order shipping app from PayPal that enables me to do the same as the shipnow , plus I can add other relevant transaction info. The reason I mentioned "if it is paid for with PayPal" is because it makes it VERY simple without having to navigate to shipnow or multiorder.
