It's the eBay blues. Sometimes you get great deals, sometimes you get blue-balled.

    So here we are.

I saw and bought the coin. Then looked at his other coins and saw his 1878 cc ms 61 dollar for sale. This is when I knew I would have a problem

    image.jpg

After I bought his coin I looked at the rest he had and saw this one and knew it was bad. This is when I sent him my statements about not sending me the coin. I told the guy minutes after I bought the coin not to send it to me and he still did.

So after leaving negative feedback something occured to me. Since I told him not to send the coin and he did I had to wait for it to come to snad. But after neging him I thought "pawnshop".

    Either
    1. He was lying all along

    Or

    2. He owns a pawnshop. He doesn't know coins are different and doesn't know what stock photo means. To him a coin is just a beanie baby. He sold me a coin and posted the "kind" it was but really doesn't understand they are all different, and that the exact picture directly affects value. He thinks they are interchangeable, each beanie baby of the same type is the same.

Either way he gets a neg. if he was trying to cheat then neg.

If he really was being honest then there were a few problems.

    A. He used stock photos which is against eBay guidelines, and he didn't clearly denote that they were stock photos.

    B. He claimed to be a reputable dealer. Any actual dealer would understand the difference in value between the toning and not toned coin.

    C. I told him he was using stock photos and he apparently doesn't know what a stock photo is.

    D. He knows enough about coins to know to use coinfacts pic's but doesn't know the difference in value. I find this one particularly hard to swallow.

So if he wants to claim he is a dealer I'm holding him to the standards of actually being a dealer.

After buying the coin I looked at coinfacts and saw the picture listed as being ms66 so I knew after buying it would not end well.

    Ok my whole point of posting is this;

Do you think he was honest and likely a pawn store owner who doesn't know anything about coins despite being a "reputable dealer" or was he lying and hoping I wouldnt notice the toning was different?

This won't stop me from buying on eBay, and I'll keep everyone informed on how this goes.

I ran into several similar situation auction recently from 2 different sellers. Both has large number review. But anyway they were not Slab, but the pic they use, they must have photoshop them or something. I get the coin and they were mostly too dark and not as they describe. Sometime I think them seller think we all are stupid or don't know what we are doing and I am sure there are alot collectors out there don't know a slider or AU from a MS60 or 63 or Unc, or BU, or Choice BU and so on. But to send something that totally look different from the picture like color or lustre and get junk like dark or no lustre and all beat up really piss you off. You have to spend the time shipping it back and alot of the time us buyer have to pay for return shiping. But like you said I will not stop buying from Ebay cause there are alot more seller out there that are good sellers. That is also why knowledge is important before buying anything.

The plot thickens. When I googled his name after it appeared in the resolution center it ultimately linked to

    image.jpg

I'm not certain this is the guy but I think it is him. Anyone know anything about this guy? I guess he is enough of a coin dealer to put the word coin on his sign, so it would be my opinion that he appeared to know exactly what he was doing and it appears he was dishonestly trying to make sales on eBay.

Just as I said I would in the first message to him I gave him a harsh negative, and opened a snad.

    I thought you loved Ebay......:D

I would never buy a coin w/o a photo of the whole slab. That's asking for trouble.

I noticed that there were 6 bidders and then the BIN at $295. Did you offer the $295? Man, this ought to be on the EBAY LAUGH OF THE DAY thread....:D

What a jerk. Return the coin, get your money back, leave a negative feedback and report the matter (and his other problematic auctions) to eBay.

The handful of bad sellers like this make it tougher for the good guys.

I thought ebay makes you show an image of the slab? Did he?

Ya, after seeing he has a coin store, it's looking pretty bad for him and hard to think this was some naive pawnbroker.

It looks like the guy has only sold a few things on ebay, all year.
I'm not sure it's the same guy.

I think your dealing with a moron who's also a jerk. Why I like ha and stacks and gc not feebay the coin you bid on is the coin you receive. Is real important especially when you collect by color and eye appeal

I suspect you are dealing with a gold trader who is opportunistically buying and selling coins without trying to learn anything about them. He appears to be in over his head without knowing it.

I'm pretty sure it is. I googled his name, and it came up into a search engine where you pay and it showed him listed as the owner. I didn't follow up and actually pay I just looked at the initial page.

No image of the slab. Also eBay says you can't use stock photos for coins as well. He isn't big on following the rules so it would seem. I've bought some great coins from people only using the pcgs image so that didn't bother me.

This brings me back to "pawn shop". If someone was intentionally lying you would think they would have backed out after my first reply. But again this also brings me back to this

Did not read your whole rant, but if you leave him a negative, ebay could remove it. In your first message, you threaten him with one, which is illegal. Try toning down your conversation, and if you do not like the coin just return it.

In my first message I told him not to ship if it is not the exact same coin. Had you read the "rant" you might have seen I talk to him about using stock photos which he specifically states he didn't do, and he clearly did.

By the way I'm pretty sure it is not a criminal nor civil violation of the law to threaten to give a negative if an item is misrepresented in eBay. I'm going to assume you meant against eBay policy. Given how many policies he violated with one listing I'm not going to worry about my neg being removed or not.

A return implies I have to pay shipping to return an improperly listed item. I don't see why I should have to pay money when he clearly listed the item completely incorrectly in the best case scenario or lied outright in the worst.
