http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31373&item=3952850262&rd=1 Do you think this is a joke? Or just common everyday fraud?
Are they trying to kid you into thinking that is a PCGS graded coin. First off, who is PGS and why do they use a Coin World holder? Then, how do you have a Cameo on a copper coin?
I think PGS is a relatively new sub-standard TPG. I only started seeing their items recently. Obviously, people are supposed to think it's actually PCGS. I have not been able to find any info on PGS yet and I have been looking for a couple of weeks. I think this auction is outright fraud. As a seller, he has 3 negative feedback (2 are from the same buyer). The first buyer says he didn't get all of the coins advertised. The seller states that the buyer refused refund. I would think that this was because he wanted the buyer to return all of the coins and was only going to refund the sale price. The second was a complaint about a coin being cleaned. Again the seller states that the buyer refused the refund. I think this one was for the same reason. The seller's s/h is way too high and, according to his return policy, he doesn't give refunds, only exchanges. The coin in that slab does not even look like a proof strike, let alone a PR70. The question now is, did PGS actually slab that coin or did the seller print out some labels on his printer and put this together himself? One way or another, I think the seller is a scammer. I will be looking into this further and probably reporting a lot of auctions today. He's got 86 auctions running as of this reply - many of which are ending today.
A joke? Not likely. I believe it is a typical eBay style auction. Fraud? Not really. The stated shipping cost is inflated, but it is not hidden. I believe the buyer will receive something very similar to what is in the item description. Of course, the item description tells us nothing about what is being sold.
First of all, I don't think this is a "typical" eBay auction. There are also many of honest sellers out there who don't do this. Second, the coin in question is not a proof coin as stated in the title, so yes I think it is fraudulent. The title is considered part of the description as far as an eBay auction goes. If a grade is stated in the title, it makes the seller just as responsible as if it was stated in the description portion of the auction. Third, because there is a picture, the buyer will probably receive the item pictured which is NOT the coin described in the title of the auction.
Answers to my thread on PGS dated 1/13 gives some answers as to who they are. This holder is somewhat different than the one previously refered to. I agree with Susan that there are many honest dealers on Ebay.
Sure there are many honest sellers. This may be one too, for all we know. The auction appears to be for a Lincoln cent, in a slab, with someone's label on it. Nothing more, nothing less. Grading is subjective. If anyone can grade that coin, by the picture provided, their eyes are better than mine. LOL
Thanks, I had forgotten about that thread. Here is the link to the site for anyone who wants to look at it: http://www.pgsgrading.com/
The PGS in the link Susan provided is NOT the same PGS that did the coin in the eby auction. Same initials but two different companies.
That auction smells from here--Being that I have purchased from ebay many times--I would not buy from this guy even if he offered the 30 day return and free shipping--Also, if you look at PGS sites slabbed coins, the slab AND label look different
