So I purchased a 2009-S nickel in amazing perfect condition off eBay a while ago and paid for it right after winning the auction. Shortly afterwards I asked you guys if I got a good buy and you all told me no so I kindly asked him to cancel my order. I never received a response but I did receive my PayPal money back so I assumed that meant I got a refund? Today I look in the mailbox and their is my coin. I am debating whether or not I should talk to him. I don't really want go to the trouble just to send a nickel back to him.

There's just all kinds of wrong here. You bid on and won an item then did the research after the fact and cancelled it?!

    Did he misrepresent the coin?

    Yea I'm with jallengomez.
It's an auction house not Wal-Mart. You bid on the aution and offered the most. You won. You should not cancel because of buyers remorse as it's an auction. Only if the item is not what it was represented to be.

What's worse is you then are getting the item free from a contract you broke.

If this is where my advise leads to in these forums I have to second guess leaving it now.

He probably sent it before you cancelled. I would get in touch with the seller and see what he wants done. I don't think he's in the business of sending out free stuff.

It was a Buy It Now. Yeah, I don't do stuff like that often.

I agree with everyone else. It would be differant if it was misrepresented. BUt I assume it was not and you just cancelled your contract with him. If it were me I would send him the money back because he listed the item (got charged fees), you won the item (he got charged fees), you paid for the item ( he got charged paypal fees that probably got reversed).
The only right thing to do in my opinion is to give him the money back.

I would contact him and offer to send him a MO. He may tell you to just keep it anyways, I would.

Sounds like you're doing the right thing then. As someone stated, he had probably already mailed it by the time the cancellation was done.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

If you won this at auction, you have absolutely no basis, grounds, or right to return it simply because you paid to much. I find this absolutely abhorrent, and you should definitely pay the seller. Chalk it up as a lesson learned, and do better next time. Buyer's remorse is never a reason to cancel an auction.

I agree and I am really surprised this question would even be asked by a member of this forum.

You need to do the right and honorable thing which is to contact him with an offer of the payment or return the coin plus his ebay and mailing fees.

I had a similar situation happen to me recently on EBAY. I was posting a strap of $2 bills for which the buyer paid with an e-check. 2 days later he cancelled and despite my repeated attempts to ask him to use another method to pay, he never replied. Fortunately I never sent the strap. I suspected a scam (though many on the forum did not).

But this could have been me sending the strap out only to have the buyer receive and KEEP my $2 bill strap! wrong wrong wrong

I think he gets it now.
Let's see what the seller and buyer work out.

I just paid him even even though he hasn't contacted me back yet. Either way if he sent it before he could cancel or if he just sent it to be nice I would pay him either way.

He prob just was going to eat the cost, and didnt want bad feedback. It doesnt sound like a very expensive item.It is very honorable to re-pay.you might get a surprise and get a refund a 2nd time.then I would say keep it.
