Are the Kennedy halves in this auction in bogus PCGS slabs? I've never seen a PCGS slab with a grade described as "Gem Brilliant Uncirculated"--I've always seen PCGS slabs with numeric grades (e.g. MS65).

Probably one of those things they sold on the home shopping network or one of those other coin shows.

I've never seen anything like that either and it almost looks like a "homemade" job. :kewl: Like something Garrett would dew!

    Ribbit :D

Ps: I shot it off to PCGS just to be on the safe side. ;)

You could always ask the seller for the PCGS certification number. We know it is not on the front of the slab label. I wonder how he would answer that question. Then go here http://www.pcgs.com/cert/ if he gives you a number.

The auction says "Two Uncertified ,Uncirculated 90%Silver 1964 Kennedy PCGS Gems in Holders". So I would say FAKE

I would e-mail PCGS with that link.
They have the money and connections to come down hard on something like that.

I think they are real. Someone paid PCGS to holder a group this way.
Probably for some type of promotion.

I think I have seen those before, cant say where or why but they look familiar, one thing I always look at is the value of the coin, there really isn't any benefit to the criminal to bother making a fake 64 kennedy and then making a fake slab, not for a $10-15 coin at best. I think the earlier poster may have been right, these may have been made by PCGS for someone, like a HSN sale or something like that.

I concur. NGC does the same thing.

I believe that's a sample slab and is real.

If it is a sample, it is not listed here: http://www.sampleslabs.com/pcgs.html. They have nothing even resembling it there, but the latest slab they have listed is 2006, so I am not too sure how meaningful that is.

All that aside, the list has been pulled. I suspected it would since it did not show both sides of the coin.

I was going to call it a sample slab but Cameron corrected me on this some time back. The label must have "Sample" on it to be listed as such.

Listing even says slabbed and graded? I don't see a grade anywhere, However, They are doing something right at 100%, FB,

I didn't see the auction from the original post before it was pulled, but the slab the 2005 silver eagle in the second auction listed is in is real. It is the result of a bulk lot submission from a promoter. This one didn't meet the minimum grade requirement for one promotion so it was holdered at a cheaper rate with no grade and would be used in a different promotion. I have seen them before.
