I believe it to be a counterfeit, just like the other coins he sold recently. I have reported them to Ebay.
I felt exactly the way all others who have responded feel, and I will continue to post these Ebay sellers on here in hopes of at least saving some collectors (newbies) of getting ripped. I continue to call Ebay and complain and you all can see how much good it does- the fees mean much more to them than ridding the system of these crooks. The vast majority of these type sellers start off with the usual disclaimers- "I know nothing about coins," or "I inherited these....", etc when in fact they DO KNOW what they are listing are fakes and rely totally on selling to the new inexperienced collectors, many of which are out to get hopefully a "bargain". I don't know the exact price these people pay wholesale for these fake Trade $, and everyone knows the market is saturated with them these days, so the cost must be pretty small. If I were in charge at Ebay it would be 1 strike and your OUT! for not disclosing the obvious on their listings.
I would not have spotted this as a counterfeit at first glance. On further inspection, is it just me or does the 2nd 'C' on the mint mark not look right? It looks huge. Other than that, the beak looks a little funny and it seems that the right wing tip of the eagle is very nearly touching the branch. On a real one there appears to be more of a gap. Other than that, I can't tell.
