I'm going through the last of the collection my wife and her siblings inherited...which means I'm going through over a hundred envelopes marked with a date and mint, and filled with the appropriate wheat cents (pulled from circulation, I'm guessing). There are no obvious rarities, so...I'm wondering what's the easiest way to 'liquidate' these coins, short of wrapping 'em up and taking them to the bank? I'll hopefully be able to sell all the silver this weekend at the upcoming Denver Coin Expo, but these I feel I'm going to have a harder time with these. I was thinking of dividing them all up by decade...20's, 30's, 40's and so on, and maybe selling them in bulk on eBay? I know no coin store will take all of these. Honestly, I'd be happy to get 3-4 cents for the ones from the 20's and 30's and 2 cents for the ones from the 40's and 50's, but I dunno if that's realistic. Anyone know of any sites online that buy wheaties in bulk??
I did that once a while back with about 10 or so rolls of wheaties I had personally pulled from circulation, but I'm worried about the shipping, as I received an e-mail from the guy a few weeks later saying he never got them. It was a heavy box, too... As for how many? I'm not sure yet...I'm guessing over $10 in face value.
Why not try a local coin dealer? Mine is ALWAYS buying wheats. Usually 3 cents each but 4 if he really needs them.
Yeah! A contest of some sort is a good idea! Just for a few rolls anyway! The local dealer here sells 1,000 lots for $50
i would sell them on ebay & tell your story of how you got them interesting to read some sentimental stories on ebay :rolling: should get at least face value for them including ebay, paypal and shipping charges
Ha, well, I already found a buyer, so everything is taken care of. I've been thinking of holding a contest soon, though. Maybe I'll pick up something good to give away at the show this Sat.
I agree with the responses above, stick with ebay, even if you get one jerk who claims he never got them. It may be the fastest way to get rid of them. Sell them by the roll, cheap and make them get insurance.
