Hi folks! As those of you who have read my previous posts may have noticed, I teach US History. I'm covering the beginning of the 1800s and cover through Reconstruction (1877). I have some replica bank notes (sorry, public school teacher...cannot afford the real stuff! lol). Anyone have suggestions of "cheap" coins from that time period, either real or replica, that I could search for? Thanks...you guys have been great!!
Many dealers should have in stock some inexpensive examples of the following coins from that era... Indian Head Cent - 1859-1909 Liberty Head Nickel (also known as "V" nickel) - 1883-1913 Barber Dime - 1892-1916 Barber Quarter - 1892-1916 You might also want to try using the web site, http:www.coinfacts.com, in your presentation to the class. The site has pictures of each of the coins minted during the era you specify and can provide you details such as the designer, the material, etc. Hope this helps.
