A most attractive type of a Gothic style coin.

The AV Goldguldens from Koln/Frankfurt/Nordlingen/Mainz/Trier/Julich/Basel etc., are really neat. There is one coin, a dated 1492 Four Goldgulden coin from Bern that is breathtaking (sadly cannot afford it) However, there is a dated 1488 Demi-Noble from Flanders that is within reach...some day i hope.

I can't afford these beautiful coins either, but I bought a nice and quite recent book about coinage of the Southern Netherlands to help me get over it. It is in English, Frenc and Dutch and has quite good reproductions. The title is The Coins of the Burgundian, Spanish and Austrian Low Countries, and of the French and Dutch Periods (1434-1830). You can buy it from the author (self-published), Hugo Van Houdt.

My contribution is an early taler from the German State of Halberstadt in 1542. While not "early" with regards to the Christian church, it is certainly "early" in terms of dated european coinage. Featuring St Stephan on the obverse.

Sometimes a book with nice color photos is the next best thing to owning these fabulous coins...

Nice, I think Silver coinage is even harder to get, copper is near zilch, since these were used and got pretty worn down. Alas, the gold sometimes survived in perfect quality.
