I have made changes to my educational site on early Christian symbolism on Roman coins.

    http://esty.ancients.info/Christian...Symbols.html

I moved some of the details off the main page and onto a linked page to make it read more easily if you are not very interested, and I added examples of an Chi-Iota type:

This type is sometimes said to have a "chi-rho" to the left of the banner, but I have never seen it with a "rho" with a real rho (P) shape.
This one does have a bump at the top. It is from Ticinum and discussed further in a page linked to "Table 1" on that page.

Very interesting reading. I particularly like the SPES PVBLIC with the serpent. I would really love one of these in my collection.

Sweet coin Warren! I also would like one or two of those coins!
The sad thing ( for me) is with the rise of christianity all the cool reverses of the Roman Gods disappeared :(.

This has always been one of my favorite pages of yours, Warren. But I'm not convinced your coin shows chi-iota. I've seen a few of these types with similar symbol and it looks like a stylized rho to me. I have yet to see one with seraphs at the top, indicating iota. There always seems to be the dot to the right which makes it look like rho.

I wish you luck. One comes around at auction every few years. You'll need a few grand to snag it.

Yeah, well, I'm having trouble committing to $250 as you know.

I enjoy these pages & lately I actually have been focusing more LRBs, mainly cause of cost.
