ive got a 1996 american silver eagle in a round plastic box,,the box has glue marks and dirt on it,so i opened it to get a good look..i was surprised to find NO marks,,even using the 10x20 ANS glass,i found one small mark on the sun,,and the top edge must of had a small bend when struck, because the edge marks are on the bend, other then that, theres not even tiny scratches,,,,question,,could this possibly be rated as proof?..a pic or scan will follow..(i hope, lol)
Proof is way they manufacture coins not a condition. If it has a mirrored field then it may be a proof.
I would guess that it is a Mint State but I not sure...is it almost black back ground with white cameo on the letters and Lady Liberty? If it is a Mint State coin it is worth much more than bullion...they list at about $30 each! Speedy
ok,,i rechecked and the field is a mirrored finish, enough of a mirror that holdin something about 2 inches away you can see its reflection,,now,if a coin is manufactured proof, but doesnt meet the standard ,do they destroy them..i have found several flaws,a couple of small chips,,,i need to scan this as tryin to take a pic is useless...
