For those of you who are regular listeners to The Coin Show podcast you may find this familiar from the last episode. In episode 87 I discussed coins from the Economite hoard and how some scholars believe that these E & L counterstamped bust quarters originated from the harmonites who assembled the hoard. This coin was stamped with an E just above the bust... it appears someone later tried to repair it... but it is still clearly there.
Here is a piece that sold at Heritage. http://coins.ha.com/itm/bust-quarters/1815-25c-e-counterstamp-au58-ngc-b-1-r1/a/1182-3396.s
Here is a "L" counterstamp I purchased recently as well. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1825-quarter-with-l-counterstamp.253762/
No wonder I couldn't find it! You said it was above the bust when it is actually above the cap. It seems, Matt, you have something else on your mind. Chris
