I'm sharing an American Numismatic Association blog write-up that I just drafted that should provide insight that Dwight D. Eisenhower was a numismatist at heart and that he donated his coin collection to the Smithsonian Institution in 1958 (while still actively serving his second term as the 34th President of the United States).

Also, while serving as the 34th President of the United States he used his numismatic mindset to create a series of fourteen appreciation medal types for his use.

I know he carried some coins in a pouch during the war and he would finger them when he was flying or nervous. I wonder if any of those were those coins?

Looks more like he was a coin collector rather than a numismatist.
