Hi there, I have found a coin that is from the Netherlands and hoping you could help me out with something regarding it. The coin is from 1919 and is the value of "2 1/2" cents, mintage 2Mil Obverse face: lion inside a beaded circle with words around it "koningrijk der nederlanded" finishing with 1919 at the bottom Reverse face: has value in centre with wreath surrounding it. If you hold coin between your index finger and thumb and look at the obv. face (the lion is upright with date reading 1919) and spin the coin on its NORTH/SOUTH axis with finger on other hand from EAST/WEST the rev. face becomes upside down. So my questions: Is this how the coin is meant to be or has there been an error in striking this coin (die 180 degrees out of alignment) on either of the faces? If this is an error, how much more valuable is the coin? The Dutch gulden/cent coins (until 2001) had a ↑↓ alignment while the euro/cent coins (since 1999) have this ↑↑ orientation. By the way, you can attach images to your posts - easier than mailing them.
A lot of countries have that orientation with their coins, and even some U.S. coins do (I think standing liberty quarters do off the top of my head). Almost all Mexican coins and French coins are like that.
