I'm not that knowledgeable but I've heard people using ear swabs (Cu tips) to carefully clean. I'd wait for ND or GJSMDB or whatever his name is with the potato head face to answer. ;)

Never rub a Qtip on a coin. Never wipe it at all. Buy a can of air. Make sure their are no propellents used such as alcohol. After two seconds (count) of air coming out of the can run the coin through the air using soft gloves. Proof coins need extra attention and any wipe mark will kill the value. I will include a good example of what a wipe does.

The following pic is a 1960 Franklin. This coin would grade MS-65 FBL in any holder with one exception. Someone wiped the obverse with a cloth. Small lines run from left to right. Can't be seen with the naked eye, but the value was gone.

    Example:

    1960 MS-65 FBL trends at $475

We sold this coin for $95.00

Never ever clean or wipe a coin.

I'll have you know that is an accurate representation of my visage ;)

Yes pog - the canned air you use to to dust your computer should work fine. Just check to make sure it says Non- Flammable on the can and hold the can upright when you use it so no liquid squirts out - just air ;)
