Alignment om many of my older Silver Cert. Seem to be Shifted while other more modern note shifted notes are or seem to be rarer.. I am sure it is due to Technology.. well maybe not sure.. Well I have been doing Several Thousand in Strap searching a week and have Found a few that are shifted.. I was wondering how much of a Alignment issue would be enough to make the Note an Error.. These are a few.. any opinions? I know if they are an error they are minimal. Question Two... I Got this Star Note today.. I am still new to reading the total BEP Print count on some bills .. But am I right that this is a low Print run? A total Run of 1 Mill 2K? Sorry if my Questions are silly.. I am trying to be more precise. You've all been a great help to my new passion.. I can't that you enough.. Oh and now my wife hates the "Damned Cash Geeks" (Her words) LOL..
Some runs of currency just have alignment problems Regardless of when issued, Unless there fractionals which Were cut by scissors......LOL
The star is from a run of 1,280,000 notes, yes. While that's not a full run, it's not especially short. I think most people consider a "short run" to be 640,000 or lower (i.e., 20% of a full run or less). As Noost said, a note that's merely poorly centered is usually considered *less* desirable than a well-centered one. It's only when the centering is so bad that parts of the design are missing, or parts of other notes are showing, that error collectors start to be interested. Even then, where some older notes are concerned, you've got to be aware of the characteristics of each series: For example, the 1928 $1 red-seals are known for very poor vertical centering. I picked this one up at a *discount* because of its bad centering--the tiny sliver of the next note along the top edge is common enough in this series that it's not even called an error: Even more extreme are the Fractionals (hand-cut at the BEP, as Mpcusa pointed out), and then the Nationals (hand-cut at the individual banks, some of whom were *very* sloppy). I once had a dealer offer me a large-size National for cheap because it had almost half an inch missing at the bottom, with almost half an inch of the next note showing at the top. He said it was "almost enough to be an error"! I've also seen Nationals that were torn, rather than cut, from their sheets....
Super Info!! Thanks!! That helped me understand some other Items I have.. I would guess these are all Scissor Cut.. The Green 5 Cent is bad on both sides.. Oh and what do you think of the new 5.00 scanner.. Not to bad..
