Hearing all about these dueces posted up lately, I decided to do some searching myself. I went around to many different banks in the area and ended up with around 200 $2 bills to sort and search through. So here are the finds! (and a $1 star i got). Pics coming later if wanted. 2003A $1 Star serial: E 03868517* 1953B $2 Red seal serial: A 68772722 A 2003 $2 with some ink error??? 2003 $2 neat serial: I 22440099 A 1976 $2 neat serial: I 18190000 A 2003 $2 wheres george (originated in Fort Lauderdale, FL-found in St. Petersburg, FL) 2003A $2 wheres george (originated in Jacksonville, FL- found in St. Petersburg, FL) I found the wheres george ones kind of strange since they are $2s not $1s. Still neat though!
Bit confused but what exactly is 'wheres george' I have heard the expression before but have no idea as to what it means
'WHERES GEORGE' is stamped on some random bills, started out on $1s but now they are on all denominations. Sometimes they have cool pictures stamped on them aswell like a dolphin, turtle, blimp, etc. You then go to wheresgeorge.com (as stated on the bill) and enter in the serial number. It will tell you where the bill originally was stamped and anywhere else it has gone where someone has entered the serial. You can leave messages for the next people that enter in the serial aswell and track the bills movement. A really neat idea.
www.wheresgeorge.com is an online tracking system for US bank notes. You can put in the serial number of your bill and see if the same bill was entered by someone else. Canada also does the same thing at www.whereswilly.com. Edit: Seems I am always typing a little too slow.
Daggarjon, I agree. But at least its more useful than a stamp that says I grew hemp. There is no reason for that. (Found 6 AU/CU $2's with that today.)
more usefull?? not at all.. i view them both as a waste of a good note. but i also understand some folks like it, and while i dissagree, i can respect their view (even though i swear at them when i find a stamped note lol)
Send those notes over my way then, I think they are kind of neat although I agree it does wreck notes. lol
Very cool finds North49guy! A red Seal to boot! I must agree with DJ on the "Wheres Geroge" stamp! I have seen a few nice stars ruined by that stamp! Post some pics...(please) SGR
Here are the pics! Opinions on my possible errors would be of great help!!!:thumb: 1953B $2 Red seal serial: A 68772722 A 2003 $2 with some ink error??? error on left seal? a seal and 9 ink transfer maybe? 2003 $2 neat serial: I 22440099 A 1976 $2 neat serial: I 18190000 A high left seal and serials? an error?
Look at the crease through the seal: the "ghost" images are a perfect reflection of the normal seal and 9 across that fold. Not too unusual when a fairly new note is put into a wallet with a fold in it.... Not enought of a shift to be considered an error--nothing's overlapping that shouldn't be. For some reason, minor shifts like this are extremely common on the 1976 $2's; the BEP seems to have had a bit of trouble getting the overprints aligned just right on that series.
He (Numbers) is always full of good information..I have long wanted to ask if he ever worked for the BEP?? Nice notes you have there North49guy!! RickieB
