so, today i was waiting for my regular teller (the main cashier with vault access for my halves.) and decided to ask another teller if she had any halves i could look through. she handed me a two rolls.. in them: maybe good karma for bringing the tellers a bag of candy?
Holy shi(p)! You know we all hate you, now, right? Big box of chocolates (I give my tellers Frango Mints...they love them). What wrappers did these come in (customer-wrapped?; if machine-rolled, old wrappers or new?), or were they loose?
I have my best luck looking for half dollars, by going through small towns and stopping at banks to ask if I can buy half dollars. About four years ago I hit the jackpot. They had $6000 of hand wrapped halves that had been sitting in their vault for years, I bought them on the spot with the only requirement that I would not bring them back to them. I found Franklins, Walkers, Kennedy's and one 1898O Barber. The oldest coin I have ever found in circulation. I cleared about $1000 profit at the bullion rate of four years ago. I wish I had sat on them, but that's hindsight. I took them to my bank, which didn't make them happy, but I didn't really care. They are still out there if you beat the backwoods banks. City banks are worthless as they get them from the Fed and I only occasionally find any silver. Vic
The funny thing is, I was bringing a bag of mixed candies to them today because the rolls i picked up yesterday had this in it: there were two 65s in some loose change she gave me to look through, then the roll had all the walkers, franklins and of the other 9 2 were 64s and 7 were %40.
Wow! Best advice I've heard yet, though, Vic (except for the part about taking them back ). But what a story...
What's the bank and the names of these tellers--I'll be right there! But seriously, were these customer-wrapped, or old machine-rolls? The machine-rolled these days are yellow--that's where you lay an egg.
they were all customer wrapped.. tan and brown striped rolls. the machine rolls have all been pretty terrible. maybe one %40.. nothing else
Bank Hit I'd never part with the bank name, I still go back there, though have never had the luck of the first time. Also, they were all hand rolled, the bank didn't have a roller for halves.Vic
vegas vic: Nice finds, congrats. Now for the discussion about some little old lady not having money for food and medicine since you got these rare coins! [Note: totally tongue in cheek.]
