I think it is a Die crack between the 8 & 6 but what would you say is below the 6? Just curious, sure it is nothing.
Truthfully, the pictures are too blurry to tell for sure. How did you take them? Can you zoom out and retake and then crop? Most likely, what you are seeing deals with the Zinc issues the later Lincolns have had.
I kinda added it back with the rest. If I find it again I will retake them. Figuring nothing special anyway.
Even if it was a die crack, it wouldn't be worth much over face, maybe 30 cents. In the mid-late eighties the cents were new with the zinc composition and were not taken very good care of at the mint. Late die stages show many die cracks, planchet damage, and die damage. Hope this helps! -SC
Thanks. More looking to see what it is, and when I find it again, I will try to take better pics. But $.30, a $.29 profit, woo hoo, lol
It's just simple Die Deterioration and Die Deterioration Doubling on the last number http://www.error-ref.com/die-deterioration-doubling-incuse/
I squirreled the below away in 1887 along with a 1987 cent exhibiting that raised ridge. My 87 shows that same "shadow" behind the 7 that you see behind the 6. At the time, I was subscribing to Numismatic News, and they had a regular column about errors.
