Are double struck in the collar Morgan silver dollars rare or common?

How do you define double struck ? Do you mean a coin that was struck twice by the dies or do you mean a coin that has doubling ? They are not the same thing.

I am not really sure but the coin has a mirror image slightly lower and rotated, I figure if it were a die it would only be on one side instead of both.

    Hello Becky,
I will put together a set of real nice pictures for you next week.

This coin you have - is it slabbed ? If so by who ? The reason I am asking that is because there is very real possibility the coin is a fake. It is one of the most valuable date/mint mark combinations for all of the Morgan dollars and it has been counterfeited quite heavily.

By the same token the coin may well be genuine. But because of your description of it having doubling on both sides I am somewhat skeptical.

    I look forward to them.

Let me also say that I have looked through my resources and you need to look closely at the mint mark, look for s/s, or a die break through the D in dollar.

Also a obverse that is completely double struck might be an exception to my rule, I was thinking about the run of the mill machine doubling on mottos etc. I would think that there would be error buyers that would really like that coin. Don't get your hopes up too high yet though, the jury is still out. :p
