Howdy fellow coin peeps, I picked up a "lot" with several early coppers in it and one no date Capped Bust Cent that I believe is a 1795 S-78. One day recently, I was fooling around and photographing a few of my older coppers and took a pic of it and when I was cropping it, I noticed something interesting on the obverse: The easiest way to see the double strike is to look at her lips. :kewl: Ribbit
The doubling isn't even. On the second strike, the coin shifted a little but it wasn't an even shifting. The doubling gets further apart from top to bottom. If you will look on her shoulder, you will see a second shoulder and follow that up and the distance gets smaller and smaller as you go up. I do not recall strike doubling doing that? Ribbit
I've normally referred to this type as "Liberty Cap"... http://coinfacts.com/large_cents/liberty_cap_large_cents/liberty_cap_large_cents.html
I don't know why but I've always called them that. I don't know if it's because peeps call them that on Ebay or I saw it somewhere else but from now on I'm calling them by their correct name. :thumb: Ribbit
