I have purchased several thousand wheaties over the past few months and of course have not found any key dates, so I decided to start looking for errors. Don't exactly know what to look for and where but I have found quite a few questionable ones. One in particular is a 1941 coin that appears to have a double mouth. Is this a well-known error or variety, does anyone have any info about this? I also found several 1955's where the letter "E" in the word Liberty is severely curled downward on the bottom rather than being straight across. Any info on this as well? Any advice or knowledge would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!
dave: First: welcome. 2) the "double mouth" is most likely strike doubling, not a double die. As such it has no additional value. But, to be sure you would have to post a clear picture. However, there is no listed DD for Lincoln's head or face. 3) The letter E sloping down: most likely die deterioration. Or post mint damage. Also, not a listed variety. Good luck and keep searching, I do.
Welcome to the forum. Im not an error expert, but i would take Treashunts commnets. He does pretty good with errors ok, maybe even better the 'pretty good' :thumb:
There is a 1941 double die obv. I have seen listed in coin guides, not saying yours is one, but somthing to look for. I seem to find a bunch of cool "blobs" on wheats. If the "blobs" are on numbers or letters it makes them more desirable it seems. Not sure about your 1955 question, but I do find a whole mess of 1955 poor mans double when searching. I don't think they have any real value but I think they are neat. Look at all dates, and look carefully. Happy hunting!!
