Hey there and good evening members. Is there anyone up that can tell me if this is a true double die? It's a 1959 D and I think it is but then again I don't know much. You can't see it in the pictures but on the Monticello top right hand side the metal where it's doubled at is folding over and it looks like it's peeling back. The coin is doubled everywhere. On the image his chest, neck and chin are doubled,,the date appears to be doubled, his nose and forehead are doubled, on the reverse C.E.N.T is doubled, and I.T.E.D is doubled. Help me out members I can't do it without you. Thx

That is not the Monticello Building but the Lincoln Memorial Building.

I don't see any doubling. If you do it is most likely MD - Mechanical Doubling. It is common a issue.

You mentioned the word doubled twice.. But your title states double.. The correct numismatic terminology is actually Doubled Die.. Not double die.

You need to set your optimal focal length for your phones camera. Find a heavy object of a height that is optimal for holding your phone against. I use a stubby can filled with quarters. The height is right and the mass helps to steady the phone against when lining up the shot. Use your phone’s zoom to fill the screen with the coin and/or the area you want to capture. Make sure that when you zoom you don’t depart from optimal and blur the image. Also, lighting is important. Reduce glare. Use different sources from different angles and directions. Even lighting is important. Finally, take similar pictures of markers if known.

    Oh
Yeah Rick the last 2. What I'm asking about is in the very top right hand corner of the Lincoln memorial building. What is that? I don't believe it's die deterioration.but I very well could be wrong....Again!

Monticello is on the Jefferson Nickel.
The Lincoln Memorial is on the Lincoln Cent. I'm not seeing any doubling.

I'm sorry Rick, are you saying my 1959 D penny is type coneca DDR-001? Thank you so much for your help sir. How long have you been collecting coins? Have you ever sold any pennies for lots of money?

Gayland - if you scroll to the bottom of the Variety Vista listing you'll see the suggested values. Figure that you'll get a fraction of the value if you were to sell. Take a look at your coin. Based on the grade you give it, you can then crossreference the VV listing to get a suggested value...then figure it's worth something less than that if you were to sell it. There are a number of books available which you can get to review factors that affect the value of a variety...scarcity...desirability...etc. Most varieties have little appeal outside a very small community...many of which are doing the same thing as you. Expect to collect for yourself. Good luck!!

That particular DDR in a MS-70 (perfect) state, raw is worth $1
    OPs is worth far less.

FYI, DDO is an Obverse/Front DD, a DDR is a Reverse side DD.

that is an extremely minor DDR with some fattening and extra letter tips here and there.

I think it's getting to a point where one can identify microscopic "issues" that can be defined as DD any time there is more than one pressing in the hub/die process as it's not going to be 100% perfect.
