    Hi there,

I've been going through my old stuff and after spending a bit of money to finance a hi-res usb camera, I started taking a real close look at stuff.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. I'd like honest feedback.

    Hi there,

It looks like mechanical doubling and not a doubled die unfortunately. Mechanical doubling was very common for 1969 cents and is often confused for a doubled die.

It is mechanical doubling ( MD) as non-cents mentioned. Since you have a new USB camera, look at your photos and see the glare on some areas. This leads me to believe that your USB doesn't have separate or adjustable lighting ( usually built in at one angle leds). This leads to odd shadows and reflections which makes it more difficult to distinguish errors. Sometimes cutting a mask from a sheet of printer paper that allows the lens to poke through, but cuts down the direct light by reducing and diffusing the LEDS a little really helps. Welcome to the forum!

Thank you, and thanks for the welcome. I have been on the hunt through my old collections lately. I recently just got back an uncirculated 1905 Barber half from PCGS, and it got me to starting to dig a bit deeper into the stash. The camera is cheap, and it is adjustable, but it's a pain to work with. Was good enough for the price. The glare you see is actually the plastic foil paper on an uncirculated mint set. I was about to start shopping for that new Corvette. :)

I am considering having the 1969-D graded - , the 1969-D is MS65+ and it was actually the first coin where I saw Lincoln actually sitting in the memorial. I never knew it existed until I saw it glaring and clear on this coin.

    Cheers!
