@merry christine ellis your coin is the result of what's called machine doubling. It is not a doubled die.

 

Here. I'm not convinced that it is any doubling according to 1964-D RPMs (varietyvista.com)

RPM's have nothing to do with true double(d) dies if there's doubling on the Mint mark it's MD-machine doubling or DDD-die deterioration doubling.The one on your coin has just been damaged and deformed from average circulation wear and tear.
