I was looking through some more wheats when I ran across this 1957 D Cent with abe having a double lip and chin. What do you think.
WOW, it looks like a double chin DDO to me. I don't have my LHC variety book so I can't provide any further info, but it's a neat, NO awesome find. Ben
It is definitely a DDO and one of the strongest (Doubled Chin) Varieties I have seen without significant doubling elsewhere! I am not sure if it is listed or not but I will check! Very nice find! Frank
This was in a roll from a lot of 207 rolls I just recently purchased from a man who owned a store in the early 70's. He had the workers collect all the wheat cents and silver coins as they came in. I have looked through about 55 rolls so far and have found 1 1953 D RPM several die cracks, a 1944 small clip error, a 1919 in AU and several UNC coins form the 50's. He told me he had just sold the dimes $1200 worth to a dealer. Thanks for the help. Fastfun1111
I can find no listing in the CherryPicker's Guide or on Coneca's and Copper Coin's Websites! You apparently have found a new and previously unknown Doubled Die Variety! What next??!! Contact Coneca to submit the coin for attribution or i believe that you can send it to Copper Coins. Also, you might want to submit detailed pictures and a brief description to Coneca's Errorscope and Coin World. Frank
Believe me if I would have met him before he sold the dimes I am pretty sure we both would have been very happy. I say this because he had about 5 silver dollars (common morgans that the "DEALER" aka rip off, offered him $4 apiece for. The wheats he offered .75 cents a roll. I asked him if he got a fair deal on the dimes trying to pry a little to see what he got for them but he would not tell me. I let him know the dollars were worth a lot more than $4 by a long shot and paid him $1.50 a roll on the wheats. I hate it when dealers take advantage of people especially the ealderly, he is 85. He is very well off by the looks of his house and collectibles he has but thats not the point.
Here is another question I have about the coin. I was wondering if I sent it to Coneca would it pay to get it certified and what would you guess the value to be? Thanks again
It's machine doubling (a.k.a. mechanical doubling, machine damage doubling, machine doubling damage, strike doubling, shift doubling, ejection doubling, etc.). The marginal shelving is characteristic. This is also a common location for machine doubling to occur. It has no value.
Found this one in a roll from the same batch it has the double chin as well as on the date. What do you think about this one?
Looks like machine doubling, again. Sorry. Love the finds though! Somebody still might collect those.
