Just found this coin roll hunting and at first I thought " Ahh...PMD" but after looking a little closer I could see the whole rim is in place so no one hit it with a torch and melted it....Also thought someone melted some solder and let it drip on the coin so I tried to pop it off but no way.....What do you think?
If you both have the EXACT same cud, you should collaborate and see if you can get it classified as a ELDS.
I have two of those from the same die, really. I found both of them in roll searches about 4-5 years ago. Obviously quality control in Philly was lacking that year.
My first thought when I found my two back in March and June of 2012 accd to my records was that they were soldered or something. The first one to the left matches yours - the one to the right looks like the cud progressed with additional chips out of the die. So now you know your coin has kissing cousins on the east coast of the USA!
Nice find. Actually not an error, but a variety rather. Varieties happen multiple times due to changes in the die. Errors are one time accidents. The variety is listed here: http://cuds-on-coins.com/jefferson-nickel-cuds-1983/ CU-5c-1983P-02 is the variety.
