    Classic machine doubling. The marginal shelving is unmistakeable.

    Cheryl,
    Machine doubling is very common and it is hard at first to distinguish between this and a true double die. Check out the Cherry Pickers Guide or any of dozens of publications that deal with mint errors. There really is a dramatic difference between the two types in most cases once you study them. And when you find a real double die, it will jump out at you. Keep looking.
