Are you referring to this one?

    1981A or 1985 (#129 left on Reverse)

The other series 1981 is not worth much. If your bill has the "A" then it is worth something.

$20 would probably be a bit high. With modern currency the retail guides seem to be hit or miss. It will be worth more than a dollar, but may be a little difficult in finding a buyer in circulated condition.

Currency doesn't have the same collectibility of coins. While it is a growing segment of the hobby, it still lacks in many areas. Small size US currency is really behind the ball. Many low minted numbers and star notes just don't have the value that they should. Most notes including silver certificates and the 1950 series only trade at a fraction above face. This includes the star notes. A very undervalued group. Currency really has a limited life span. At some point, collectors are going to pick up on this. With the new color notes, a lot of new people are looking into the currency market.

    Just one dealers opinion

I'm out of the loop here. Why is it worth $20?

Okay, I looked a little deeper. The 5th edition of the standard guide to US small size currency.

They show the retail values at $4 to $10 for CU notes with the lone exception of the star note from Dallas. This note bears the "K" in the serial number. This note in CU has a current retail in the $600 range.
