Dollar Coins Plastic Case or Holder?

I just got my first U.S. Mint uncirculated 25 dollar count roll of the Presidential dollar coins in the mail today.

I've read some concerns over the weekend on this message board about oxidation and discoloration of these coins over time.

I was hoping to purchase a clear plastic cover to put this in for safe keeping. Any recommendations on storing these? I also purchased the nice case the U.S. Mint is selling that holds four rolls of these at a time. It looks like it has a blue velvet interior.

Apparently the Sacagewea dollar coins have had a similar problem with discoloaration and black spotting too. Any advice would be helpful?

    Thanks.

Actually I have Sacagaweas from 2000 that are still brilliantly gold colored... they don't seem to oxidize all that much in the air but start to discolor quickly when they actually circulate. They seem to have worse reactions to being handled than they do merely sitting around.

I have some in ordinary 2 x 2's and have the presidential dollars in a Dansco album. So far, so good.

To a large degree, it depends on where you live Troodon. Not all air is the same, nor are the homes we live in.

I've taken my rolls (that I got from the bank) out of the paper and put them into plastic coin tubes. So far (about a year now) no toning. If you want to keep them in the rolls, Morgan-size dollar tubes will easily hold a wrapped roll.

I have six Dansco albums filled with the 2007 dollars (4 business strike only and 2 with satin finish and proofs). None of them has discolored yet. I keep the albums in the corrosion-resistant slipcases. I don't know how much difference that makes.

As GDJMSP points out, it may depend on the air (probably mainly humidity). I generally try to handle coins and expose them to the air either during the winter when the air is already dry or if it's during the summer, only when the air-conditioning is on.

Well being Colorado, humidity tends to be pretty low here, that probably helps.

    Great advice everyone thanks!

I will check out the Morgan size Dollar Coin rolls. I also subscribed to the Franklin Mint Presidential Dollar Program as well which comes with a cherry wood case to display the coins individually.

As far as keeping the Presidential Dollar coins in the official U.S. Mint roll, does that keep the value of them up higher or do you like to tear those rolls up and put them in the individual plastic cases?

That's the reason I subscribed to the Franklin Mint program so I would have those coins individually on display and than also have the rolls too.
