When the guy giving the presentation comes to the date of "In God We Trust", he says the US Gov't came up with that motto in 1956. Dude, major mistake!! You mean 1856!! You can hear it at around 1:56. http://screen.yahoo.com/buzzfeed/change-way-look-dollar-bill-185128465.html
Actually, the US first used the motto on the 2 cent piece in 1864. However, the guy is right (at least sort of), as the motto was adopted as the official motto of the United States in 1956.
Here's some interesting info on the motto: http://www.treasury.gov/about/education/Pages/in-god-we-trust.aspx
Yeah that's interesting for sure. I simply thought that when the Treasury started using the motto on coins that it was good for dollar bills as well. I didn't even think that dollar bills came out later and the motto wasn't adopted until 1956. Once again, I learn something new.
Well it is vaguely correct; the motto didn't become official until 1955, 1956 was when money was first issued since the motto became official. However the motto was first used in 1864 (on 2 cent pieces). The motto had been in common use for nearly 100 years before it actually became official.
