I saw the following on eBay as "DMPL" MS-63. At first I was thinking "Wow, that's definitely cleaned." Which was followed by "Why would the seller think that's DMPL?" Then I saw the original holder tag showing $50,000! http://i.ebayimg.com/t/00/s/NTI4WDQ...ZuI/$T2eC16J,!)kE9s4Z-5cuBR,ZuIjft!~~60_3.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/t/00/s/NTA5WDQ...ZuL/$T2eC16V,!zUE9s38+!Z6BR,ZuLZ9OQ~~60_3.JPG Now, am I missing something or would this get a details (for starters) and possibly even AU due to the wear on the hair? Without the scratches, I'm thinking the back would be PL MS-63 and the front would be AU-55/58. Even with net grading, isn't that the technical definition of a "slider" (MS-61?) coin?
While I do not think the coin was harshly cleaned, I do think that it suffered enough rough handling that it would be classified as having been harshly cleaned, and rightly so. And I don't see it as even being PL let alone DMPL.
Oh, my comment on the back being PL was on the assumption that those scratches (whatever they're from) weren't present. I understand it wouldn't get PL categorization due to the obverse being flat, but I can imagine there being a cameo effect or 2" of mirror on the reverse.
Actually, if it were MS-63 DMPL (as claimed), it would probably sell for around $28k-$65k (depending on the venue, etc). If it were somehow MS-65 DMPL, that's a 6-figure coin.
