Coin isn't mine but I'm interested. To me it looks AU55 and possibly cleaned a long time ago but I'm not certain. If it's too doctored I'll pass. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't like much about it. The toning is meh, and this is a pretty common coin. I'd wait for a better example to come around, because one will fairly soon.
the details just pop a bit too much on the hair and then the bottom right is more dull than the rest of the coin and I don't think it is because of the lighting. But I could be wrong.
I agree. Something looks off to me as well. The obverse looks softened on the left side of Liberty like scuffs and blemishes have been smoothed out and blended in.
It's very dull and lifeless, likely cleaned and re-toned. If it were a desirable VAM it would still be worth buying but,,,it looks like a VAM-1 which is very common and readily available in mint state. Pass unless you're getting it for dirt cheap.
What does it matter? Not meaning to be flippant, but its a coin just barely above bullion. For maybe $15 more you could get an "UNC" one. As for the "look", some of you have posted "fakes" that look about as good.
And how much would that 'minimum' be? "barely above bullion" plus "maybe $15 more" .. say, $37 "minimum of quadruple" = $148 Maybe you need to shop eBay more. There have been several sold for less than that, and I'm sure there will be several more. Just an observation.
Definitely cleaned, probably polished at some point and also dipped. I'd pass and get a more original coin even if it was Vf or xf
