Hello Everyone, I haven't posted here in quite a while and I thought I'd come back and get some good reading and catch up on what is going on in the coin world. I have bought silver and gold coins on ebay, and occasionally scrap gold if the price is right. I get promos every now and then for 4x ebay bucks and such. Sometimes it depends on the category. The good thing is that the listing itself will tell you now. Before it was a guessing game. I have done well milking the promos, but wanted feedback. A perfect example. I got a $50.00 Bullion Coupon that was good 8/21 - 8/22. I had to spend $500.00. So I tried the auctions and that got boring. Sometimes I see auctions bring more then BIN prices. So I check rolls. The best rolls out there on BIN were 20 eagles for $500. My net price was $450 shipped. $22.50 a coin. Not really a bargain. Then I got the genius (or not) ideal to look at Maple leafs. They come in rolls of 25. The price was $581.95 with free shipping. Well I pulled the trigger, and got my $50.00 off. My net price after discount was $531.95 Shipped or $21.27 per silver maple leaf. Well I looked around and I cant find them anywhere for that price. Basically about $1.87 over spot per ounce. ($19.40) spot as I write this. Some people get better offers, some not as nice. So it depends. Thank you for listening and for your feedback. Regards, Joe
I have not used those, though I take advantage of the ebacy bucks when I have them. I'm not quite ready to purchase gold bullion, but it sounds like you made a great purchase.
I use the coupons and bonus deals. The problem is, it just seems like they always pop up when I don't have a lot of cash or there is nothing that really jumps out on me. I wish I could bank them for a month or two.
yes, it sucks they give you 48 hours, usually starting on a Tuesday. Most auctions end Friday through Sunday, so your options are limited
You can sort the listings by price, with and without shipping; that would save you a lot of time, plus you look at BIN's first, not auctions. Personally, I don't buy bullion anything on eBay, I have good local sources.
I've come to hate the eBay Bucks promotions, because I never get them any more. And since so many others do, it drives up prices -- if you know you can get 80 extra eBay Bucks on your purchase, why not bid an extra $40? Now, if I start selling more again, I'll probably come back to liking them. The problem then, of course, is predicting when they'll come out.
Thats some BS. I buy probably 20-40 items a month on there and I never get any kind of coupons other then my ebucks.
If you deal with a large number of members of the general public, "targeted" promotion is your only option; anything else is expensive, wasteful, and exasperating. Want to become the most-hated company on earth, like, umm, Credit Card Services and its s----- shills, "Rachel" and "Bridget"?? Blast instead of target. More to the point, for nothing more than having a stupid little plastic card from Kroger's, I get $10 to $15 worth of online coupons a month, targeted to grocery items which I have bought previously; I use all of the coupons, if for no other reason than to "stock up" at bargain prices. However, the depth, efficiency, and ruthlessness of this inescapable "surveillance" makes me nervous.
I buy and sell my coins and paper at shows and conventions. This includes most of my auction buys. My bullion through a dealer. The only thing I now use eBay for is exonumia. Many times the promotion doesn't do much for this classification, so I no longer even read them when they come in my email.
Do you have your promotions boxed check marked? I never got any until I went into my options and checked the box that says something along the lines of receiving promotional offers from Ebay. Since I did that I've gotten nearly every offer.
I checked my opt-in box, and got two nice, beefy offers over the next month. I guess I took too much advantage of them, though, because I haven't seen a thing since.
I use the coupons when I get them, only 2-3 times per year. They are generally pretty decent, like $20 off.
I'm not sure how targeted the promotions are. I was offered $30 off a $300 bullion purchase and I've never bought bullion on eBay - not even once. I don't even collect the stuff.
Seems like they're trying to get you to start. I haven't sold tech on eBay in close to ten years, but they just sent me a promo to list laptops, tablets and game consoles -- list with their pricing guidelines, and if it doesn't sell, they'll give you $100. (It's an interesting offer, full of caveats about things you can't do to discourage sales. I'm considering listing an old iPad with a technically compliant but extremely unflattering description and images. Not sure, though, whether I'd want to let go of it at the "guideline prices" if I lose my gamble.)
Yeah, I got the tech offers too. I just don't have any tech worth selling. I tend to use things up until they're complete dinosaurs.
I get the $30 off $300 or $20 off $100. They are sporadic, and yes definitely targeted. Sometimes you can score, depending on how loose they are, I've found miscategorized items that fall in the coupon criteria and would up with a nice coupon and 4x ebay bucks. Rare as it might be, It's happened a couple of times. Yes the "BIN" are the best way if the prices are fair. Yes its true that on auction people with these coupons will bid higher if they are still coming out ahead after their coupon.
