If they are supposed to start production in less than two months they've probably already selected the designs. Just no press leaks yet.

2008 New UK Coinage Designs The new designs for the 8 definitive UK circulation coinage look like they are going to be a closely guarded secret until later. We guess the Royal Mint will make a Press Release sometime between April and June. The new designs will be a result of the design competition it announced in July 2005.
