Does anyone else regret selling a coin that later became a favorite?

The title pretty much says it all. What coin did you sell and later regret?

For me, it was my 1794 large cent. I think I got around $400 for it, so I was happy initially, but I've missed it ever since and have been contemplating buying a replacement.

  3. Sorry to hear about your loss.
That is an easy question for me, I NEVER sell any of my coins.

Im too knew in the game, so im in the 'hoarding' phase still...although i did sell about 25-30 ounces of bar silver back when i was like 19 in 2006. I think silver was $15-$18 back then, i cant remember. I do know we only paid like $50 or $70 for the 10-ouncers back when we got them though.

I did regret to sell 200 Ikes, but I am in good hand as I got them back and more in past two months. :)

As I've stated previously, selling my entire collection for $2000 in 1969. There's never a day go by that I don't regret it. :(

I sold a complete set of Morgans shortly after my son was born. I regret it, but at the time, I was happy that I had them to sell.

I definitely understand Kirk.. That's why I sold mine. To be fair, I didn't even miss it the first 3 weeks and the money went to good use as I'm sure yours did (bills). I was too busy gloating over the profit I had made initially. Then, once life calmed down, reality started to set in and now I'm willing to pay more just to get an equal replacement.

  13. Remember this thread the next time your thinking about selling something. Hoard away trey, you'll never have sellers remorse, I can promise you that.

I just know I would have sellers remorse 5min after selling so I just avoid it completely.

Well when I decided I only wanted to collect Kennedy Half Proofs, I sold off everything else I had. It was not a lot, and nothing really nice. But when I later decided that Type collecting made sense to me, I was kicking myself hard. Plus eventually I finished the Kennedy Proof series.

  15. Thats another reason I dont sell anything, my collecting habits change like the wind. I never know what might catch my eye and send me off in another direction for a while. I know I'll come full circle so I just hold on to everything. I found it is impossible for me to collect ONE series or even one country for that matter. The result is I have lots of collections going all at once. It really just keeps me from getting bored with looking at Lincolns or any other series.

In 52 years I have bought and sold many coins...the only ones I regret are the ones I broke even on! I do have some that I'll never sell, but if you made a few dollars off a sale ...ya done good. Besides after you're gone who's going to appreciate them as much as you have...unless you have a son /daughter whom are going to pick up where you left off. In that case pass them on.....however it is a hobby where if you need to.... for the most part you can recoup some fast cash.
