I was wondering if any of you guys collect editions of "A Guide Book of United States Coins" or "RED BOOK" by R.S. Yeoman. I'm currently trying to collect the entire set, looking in used book stores and flea markets and a few acceptable ones from Ebay, its getting harder to find decent editions older than 1962. I think its interesting to look back through the older guides and see the values they assigned some of the key dates in each series. Kind of makes you wish you could travel in time.
I would love to do that, but collecting coins is where my true heart lyes at the moment. It does sound fun to note the prices from the 40's, 50's, and 60's...for your collection. Anyway, good luck with the hunt.
I don’t collect them as much as I just have some. Back in the late 80’s when I was a kid, some of the older timers would give me old books at the locale coin club meetings. Some are British and Canadian coins books from 1959. They can be a lot if fun comparing prices for 30-40 years ago.
A friend of mine took off to live in California so he left me several boxes full of old issues of the Red Book and the Numismatist. All Red Books were hardback and in mint condition, most never read. I didn't collect them so off to ebay they went. I can't remember what they brought but I remember getting a bunch of bids and I know I was happy with the results.
I would like to collect an entire set. So far I have about 25 different years. Regarding "The Numismatist," I have been an ANA member since 1961, and have never thrown away a magazine. So, I probably have nearly 50 year's worth. Only problem would be finding them all.
My dad found his old '69 and '74 editions, and gave them to me because he knew I'd be interested to see the values from back then. I like to point things out and say "See, THERE'S what you should have bought, dad!"
