Does anyone collect silver proof quarters?

I picked up a silver proof Texas state quarter last week. Not really sure what to do with it. Is it worth the price to get an entire set? Thoughts?

Depends if you want to collect the entire set. Only you can determine if it's worth it.

I collect silver proof quarters. I really started with the ATB series. However, I am going back and getting all the state quarter silver proofs as well. Also if I find a good price on an old silver proof quarter I'll pick it up. Eventually I'll have every quarter from 1932-64 ( silver that is) and every silver quarter from 1992-present. Silver quarters are always in demand.

Thanks. I think I may work on the set.

I only collect the silver quarters. I have the entire set NGC-PF70 (yes...Delaware, also).

I really like the looks of them, especially the ATB set. Whenever I find them at shows at a reasonable price I pick them up even if I have duplicates.

What is a good price over spot to pay for most of them?

Depends if you want them graded or raw.

If you want them raw you can look on eBay as you should be able to reliably find the whole years' set for under $40 shipped (with the exception of the 1999 set), or $8 per coin. For example:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-S-Silver-Proof-State-Quarters-Set-COA-/261200844242?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3cd0c895d2

If you want them graded (PF-69) you can also usually find the whole years' set for under $70 shipped (again, with the exception of 1999). For example:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Coins-2005-S-NGC-PF69-Ultra-Cameo-Silver-Proof-State-Quarters-Set-/350772933806?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item51abb234ae

BTW, the above seller for the graded sets usually has a lot of them for sale on a regular basis, and they usually go within the $50-60 range for PF-69. I think that's fair given just the cost of grading alone is at least $18/coin.

I personally collect the series, and have about 3 sets each raw and graded, one for each of my 2 kids, one for me. Starting to work on the ATB's now, same idea. I averaged about $9 per graded coin and under $6 per coin when spot was as high as $5.50 per coin. Unfortunately these coins seem to have not come down much with the price of spot, since they do have a slight numismatic premium on them also it appears.

I also personally stack them as bullion when I can find them for a good price close to or sometimes even under spot. My goal is to eventually put together a full roll of 40 silver quarters from each year for the State and ATB also.

I paid 7.15 for the one in the photo, 10.99 for a NGC 69 Louisiana, and 10.85 for a NGC 69 Ohio. All prices include shipping and are from with the last 30 days.

I think I still have all the proof sets from the mint in the closet. Sold most of the clad proof and mint sets but kept the silver proofs sets.
